Greenwich

Our properties are situated close to the historic village, just 20 minutes from the centre of London. Greenwich has a uniquely important naval past and has always been a focus of Britain's rich maritime history.  Greenwich owes its specific culture from the river Thames and the people who have traded, loved and fought from this locality. Maritime Greenwich is a World Heritage site and the two  related landmarks of the Old Royal Naval College and the Royal Observatory dominate this area.

The Royal Observatory is famous as the home of Greenwich Mean Time and the Meridian Line of Longitude 0deg.  The history of navigation and the important of time in determination of longitude at sea were key to the supremacy of the British Naval forces.

The Old Naval College is famed as a masterpiece of British Architecture, designed by Sir Christopher Wren. The painted hall is particularly inspiring as is the College Chapel. Throughout the year concerts, music classes, archival films, talks and competitions are staged by the facility.

Both the Old Naval College and the Observatory can be visited free of charge.

Beyond the Observatory is Greenwich Park and then Blackheath Common. These are great open spaces ideal for walking, exercise, in fact just getting away from the city for a short break from the vital and energetic London City life.

On a more local level

Greenwich is famed as an area for just sitting and looking, enjoying a wide variety of excellent eating establishments or enjoying the many shops and their varied products and services.
